As a founding gallery of the very first edition in 2005, Hostler Burrows is thrilled to participate in Design Miami’s 20th anniversary edition. We’ll be showcasing many of the same artists from across the Nordic region whose exquisitely crafted, subtle, and thought provoking works have defined our gallery program over the last three decades.
A few highlights include:
Frida Fjellman’s totem-like sculpture Voix Céleste, a reinterpretation of a public art installation the Swedish artist first produced for Stockholm’s Ersta Hospital in 2023. The painted aluminum, tinted epoxy, and black-stained ash elements evoke gemstones and the artist’s more familiar works in blown glass. Fjellman says "Gemstones can also be seen as a symbol of an innermost core, the most beautiful. The most precious. A metaphor for humanity. I believe that unexpected shapes and colors are good for us humans. Sometimes we need them to wake up.”
Artist Kim Simonsson’s Sleeping Little Moss Girl, made from nylon-fiber flocked ceramics, portrays a world of innocence and communion with nature grounded in Finnish folklore and fairy tales.
A new porcelain wall installation commissioned specially for the fair is by ceramicist Maren Kloppmann. The artist introduced entirely new formal elements to her signature style of pared-back, minimalist arrangements which play delicately with light and shadow.
Brooklyn-based ceramicist Eun-Ha Paek’s playful sculptures from her series of Plate Busts in a new wall installation of ten lively and humorous sculptures exploring themes of identity and human experience. Paek’s Bubblebods, produced while in residence at the Kohler Arts/Industry Residency Program are also shown outside the booth in a special presentation.
