Babs Haenen - Artists + Designers - Hostler Burrows

Haenen in her studio, Amsterdam

Babs Haenen (Dutch, b. 1948) is a ceramic artist living and working in Amsterdam. Haenen creates expressive sculptures that give equal importance to color, line, and form. Taking influenced by 20th century abstract painting as well as elements from the natural world, Haenen creates richly pigmented painterly compositions on slabs of porcelain. These compositions are then cut, folded and built into 3-demensional sculptures. The resulting forms often resemble vessels or geological elements, and are always imbued with a dynamic inner choreography.
